Bethpage Water District Announces Water Main Improvement Project

Transmission Main Installation to Improve Overall Service

The transmission main will assist in moving large volumes of water and help create additional pressure within the water system to increase the district’s water capacity. Installation of the transmission main will continue through early fall.

“The integration of the transmission main into our water infrastructure will allow the Bethpage Water District to maintain and improve upon the quality of service we have provided to the Bethpage community over the years,” said William J. Ellinger, Chairman of the Bethpage Water District Board of Commissioners. “Our mission is to bring our residents the greatest quality of drinking water possible and exemplary service.”

The installation of the transmission main will affect traffic on Plainview Road, Stewart Avenue, Sycamore Avenue and Broadway. Alternate traffic patterns will be established from Exit 9 on the Seaford Oyster Bay Expressway through Cherry Avenue. The District is working with the Bethpage Central School District to minimize the effects that the construction will have on area schools.

“The District is working to insure that the water main improvement project goes on with minimal disruption to the residents of our community,” said Gary S. Bretton, Secretary of the Bethpage Water District Board of Directors. “We understand that this may cause some inconvenience but want to assure residents that the project will prove to be a long term benefit to the system.”

The installation of the transmission water main will allow water to be pumped from new wells that the district has installed outside of the plume area to better service the community. The transmission main has been strategically placed in the best route to transport water and fully service the community.

“The District is dedicated to making sound investments in the improvement of our infrastructure,” said John R. Sullivan, Treasurer of the Bethpage Water District Board of Commissioners. “We are certain that this project is a valuable step in the continued excellence of the District.”
